A novel by Emily Bronte, published in the UK
1847, that chronicles the tumultuous
relationship of Heathcliff and Catherine.
Heathcliff is taken in as a child by the
Earnshaw family and forms an intense
relationship with Catherine Earnshaw but is
cruelly treated by her brother Hindley.
Heathcliff flees, believing Catherine has
rejected him, but returns after a few years
to wreak his revenge. He marries Isabella,
sister of Catherine's husband, and when
Catherine dies in childbirth, Heathcliff
forces her daughter Cathy to marry his son
Linton. When Linton dies, Cathy turns to
Hindley's son Hareton.
